In Stokes[apos] first season with the Knights, UCF spent eight weeks in the national rankings in 2007. The team claimed three victories against ranked teams and finished the campaign 12-12.
Stokes joined the program in August 2006 after spending the previous season as an assistant at Wofford. At Wofford, Stokes worked with the both the Terriers[apos] men[apos]s and women[apos]s programs this past season. The men[apos]s squad set a school record for wins and a pair of players earned All-Southern Conference honors. The women[apos]s team won six matches in league play in 2006.
Before moving to Wofford, Stokes spent a year as an assistant coach at North Alabama, where he worked with the Lions men[apos]s and women[apos]s teams. While at North Alabama, he assisted in recruiting, player development and strength and conditioning.
From 2000-04, Stokes served as an independent tennis coach in Atlanta, Ga., specializing in junior development. He was also an associate coach at the ACE Tennis Academy in Atlanta.
During the summer of 2005, Stokes participated in a seven-week college summer camp coaching tour. He spent time at Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame, Pepperdine and Illinois.
Stokes earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in political science from Toldeo in 1994. A two-year letterwinner with the Rockets, he was named to the Dean[apos]s List three times, garnered Mid-American Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention honors and was named the Downtown Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete in 1992.
He began his coaching career as the assistant girls[apos] coach at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School in New Philadelphia, Ohio in the fall of 1992. From 1990-92, he worked during the summer as the associate tennis professional at the Tuscarawas Recreation Complex.
