ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team traditionally faces one of the nation's toughest schedules and 2009 will be no different. The Knights, who open the spring campaign on Jan. 17 at Tulsa, will face seven squads that participated in the NCAA Championship last season.

Nine of UCF's opponents finished the 2008 campaign ranked among the top-75 teams in the country. The slate includes matches with three squads from the top 20: No. 10 Florida, No. 11 Tulsa and No. 19 Miami.

Head coach Bobby Cashman's Knights will play 12 contests at the UCF Tennis Complex, starting with a tilt against Florida Gulf Coast on Jan. 24. USF (Feb. 28), Radford (March 13) and Miami (March 15) will all play in Orlando this year after competing in the NCAA Championship last season.

The Knights will also play at NCAA Championship participants Florida (Feb. 5) and Auburn (Feb. 15).

"We have created a very challenging schedule for our team. Our goal is to spend the year in the national rankings and in order to do that, we must compete against the best teams," Cashman said. "We hope that the tough schedule will prepare us for the C-USA Championship."

UCF will host Florida Atlantic on March 6. Former UCF assistant Brandon Stokes is in his first year as the Owls' head coach.

Other highlights of the schedule include a match with Clemson in Miami on Feb. 6, a contest at Denver (March 28) and the Conference USA Shootout, which East Carolina will host starting April 3.

Beginning April 16, the Knights will host the C-USA Championship on campus.

Cashman's squad returns six players from last year's squad, including All-C-USA Second Team selection junior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden).
