ORLANDO, Fla. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's rowing team takes the first steps toward earning its first berth in the NCAA Championships this weekend as the Knights compete in the Aramark South/Central Sprints. The regatta begins with the heats on Saturday, May 12 and continues Sunday, May 13.
UCF has boats entered in five races, including the premier varsity eight event that consists of 23 teams. The No. 11-ranked Knights match up against No. 5 Virginia, Kansas State, Duke, Miami and Murray State in their preliminary heat and must finish in the top three in order to advance to the A/B semifinals in the afternoon. The top three in each A/B Semifinal then go on to Sunday's grand final.
The second varsity eight and novice eight progressions work the same way. In their second varsity eight heat, the Knights go head-to-head with Kansas Sate, Louisville, Virginia and Miami, while the novice eight faces North Carolina, Virginia, Clemson and Tennessee.
UCF also competes in the varsity and open four events. The bottom two finishers in these races go directly to the "C" final, while the others continue to the "A/B" semifinals.
