CLEMSON, S.C. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF rowing team had a solid finish on Sunday morning at the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell.
Incoming inclement weather pushed the start up to 7:30 a.m., but the early start did not deter the Knights.
Racing the in B Final, the Varsity Eight edged a pair of ranked opponents in No. 18 Louisville and No. 19 Duke, coming in just behind UCLA for second place. The boat, consisting of Catherine Harms, Ashleigh Boyd, Claudia Destefani, Julie Poulsen, Lauren Aiello, Zana Krakic, Marija Medelinskaite, Viktorija Senkute and Mia Cleary, crossed the line in 6:34.454.
The Knights surged toward the finish line and held off late pushes from the Blue Devils and Oklahoma to take second.
In the Second Varsity Eight B Final, the Knights finished seventh with a time of 6:58.614. The squad consisted of Kristen Taylor, Anna Mahoney, Jasmine Blais, Aly Derksen, Ivana Krkljus, Leslie Lajoie, Rachel Rabinowitz, Edvina Nesukaityte and Danielle Taylor.
Racing in the C Final, the Varsity Four edged Navy for a second place finish. The boat, consisting of Nicole Mayer, Rachael Klunder, Shannon Perry, Grace Lindberg and Paula Parks, finished ahead of No. 20 Indiana and crossed the line in 7:41.765.
A pair of Black and Gold boats raced in the C Final of the Second Varsity Four. The Third Varsity Four, consisting of Erica Jimenez, Jessika Scholz, Jazmin Sepulveda, Alyssa Ramos and Nicole Snyder, crossed the line in 8:10.577 to finish fourth in the standings. UCF's Second Varsity Four, which consisted of Olivia Hecimovich, Sydney Hays, Darby Brooks, Jacinta Kendall and Caitlin Ross, finished fifth with a time of 8:13.039.
With the rain starting to come down, the Third Varsity Eight hit the water for the B Final. The boat, consisting of Liz Mallet, Raquel Smeenge, Danielle Wilson, Triston Krebs, Ashley Barnes, Jordan Jahosky, Dina Samaan and Victoria Gingras, closed out the weekend with a seventh place finish. The Knights crossed the line with a time of 7:54.628.
UCF finished 12th overall in the team standings, just one point behind No. 18 Louisville.
The Knights return to action with their home finale on April 29, welcoming Miami to Lake Pickett.
