ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - News & notes from the UCF football team as the calendar turns to the month of August. Practice No. 1 of the 2012 preseason is finally here as the Knights will put the helmets on for the first time Wednesday.

News

-Wednesday's practice is on tap for 3:15-5:30 p.m.

-Running backs coach Danny Barrett will be conducting a phone interview today with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they will be reflecting on the 2002 Labour Day Classic victory against Winnipeg. Barrett was the head coach of the Roughriders from 2000-06.

-Assistant head coach Brent Key will be joining AlumKnight Live on 740 AM in Orlando today at 6:30 p.m.

Stat of the Day

-In each of the last three games of 2011, UCF forced a fumble, had at least one sack (including four vs. UTEP) and broke up six passes or more (including 10 vs. UTEP). The Knights also had an interception in the final two games of the year.

What to Look For

-Thursday's practice will be the only morning session scheduled for the preseason. It will take place from 9:10-11:30 a.m.

-UCF's first day with shoulder pads is slated for Friday.

-A promotional schedule for the 2012 season is set to be released later this month.
