UCF track and field and cross country coach Caryl Smith Gilbert has been nominated as an outstanding Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Citrus. She will attend the ceremony this  Saturday at Rosen Shingle Creek as the winners of the four nomination categories (Visionary, Leadership, Lifetime Achievement and Community Impact) are revealed.

The awards, now in its 15th year, celebrate the inspiration, creativity, leadership, compassion and dedication of women and is recognized as one of Central Florida's most prestigious awards for women.

In just six years as UCF's head coach, Smith Gilbert has transformed the Knights from a virtually unknown program to one of national prominence. UCF has won four Conference USA championships, witnessed 13 athletes earn 36 All-American distinctions, claimed a top-10 finish at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships and sent four competitors to this year's USA Olympic Trials. Smith Gilbert also helped train three-time Olympian DeeDee Trotter to a bronze medal in the 400 meters in London.
