ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Katie Jackson (Satellite Beach, Fla.) scored a goal and helped set up UCF's second tally as the Knights' women's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over San Diego State on Friday night at the UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando. The win levels the Knights at 1-1 on the young season while the Aztecs dip to 1-2.

UCF goalkeeper Aline Reis recorded her 14th career shutout in the match without having to record a save as UCF held a 19-4 advantage in shots with all four Aztec attempts sailing wide of the cage.

"We scored two goals in the first half and I thought we played better in the second half, UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell said. "We sured some things up. We created some great chances. I thought we were unlucky to not score more than two. After coming off of a loss against Florida where we had our chances to score, we felt like we had to come out and get the ball to the back of the net."

In the match's sixth minute, former teammates from Satellite High School lifted UCF's spirits by connecting on the match's first goal on the evening's first shot. Tishia Jewell (Satellite Beach, Fla.) fed a cross deep into the Aztec penalty area which deflected off of a San Diego State defender to the waiting Jackson who sent it past Aztec goalkeeper Aubree Southwick from just a few yards out for her first tally of the season.

The Knights maintained a slight territorial edge for the next 20 minutes but were thwarted on several attacking attempts by a stout Aztec back line. The Knights finally broke through it in the 29th minute and UCF's second shot on goal in the match was just as successful as its first. A cross from the right flank by Jackson was punched away by Southwick but the deflection went directly to Stacie Hubbard (Jacksonville, Fla.) whose shot from near the penalty spot struck the inside of the right goalpost and bounded into the net for the junior's second career scoring strike.

The Knights very nearly added a third goal less than two minutes before halftime when Kristina Trujic (Venice, Fla.) attempted to chip the ball up and into the San Diego State net but her volley narrowly cleared the cross bar and landed atop the goal and the Knights took a 2-0 lead into intermission.

The opening of the second half not surprisingly saw the Aztecs push forward with a renewed vigor but the Knights held their ground at the defensive end. Michaela DeJesus had a pair of decent scoring chances in the half's opening 15 minutes of play but pushed a 30-yard free kick high of the Knight net and narrowly missed wide to the right from 15 yards out past a diving Reis in the 60th minute.

A series of substitutions by Cromwell stemmed the tide. The ensuing 30 minutes of play saw UCF regain control of the match, generating several quality scoring chances and keeping the play well clear of the Knights' own cage for much of the duration of the match.

The Knights will return to action a week from tonight as they face South Florida in Tampa on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
