ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Most of the country's collegiate baseball leagues have come to a close as fall classes are about to get underway. That means its time to take a look at how current UCF players wrapped up their summer seasons, while UCFAthletics.com also provides an update on 11 former Knights in the minor leagues.
Shane Brown helped the Mat-Su Miners claim the 2009 Alaska Baseball League title by hitting .284 with 16 walks and just 14 strikeouts. Over in the Florida Collegiate Summer League, Matt Goodyear finished second in the league with a 1.23 ERA, striking out 43 in 36.2 innings of work. Bryan Brown was right behind him, placing fifth with a 2.21 ERA and going 5-1 with 52 strikeouts in 53.0 innings on the hill.
Two-way player D.J. Hicks will enter his sophomore year with the Knights after a stellar season in the Valley Baseball League. The first baseman/designated hitter/right-handed pitcher went .313 at the plate with 41 RBI in 40 games, and he posted a 2.45 ERA and a 4-2 record with 17 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
