T.J. Read enters fourth season as the director of operations with UCF, after he was hired in July of 2018.
In 2021, Read helped guide UCF to its fourth consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship after posting a 27-1 overall record and a program high 19-1 conference record. The Knights also advanced to the second round of the tournament for the second time in the past three seasons.
In 2020-21, Read helped lead the Knights to their third straight and fourth overall American Athletic Conference title. UCF finished the season 16-2 overall and undefeated against AAC opponents for just the second time in program history (2018) to be crowned the AAC East Division champions. The Knights went 2-0 in the AAC Championship Tournament and took down Temple, 3-1, in the championship game to defend their title.
In 2019, Read helped the Knights win the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship tournament. The Knights finished the season 25-8 overall and 14-2 in conference play and UCF reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2003.
Read joined the Knights after one season with the N.C. State volleyball team. The Wolfpack went 21-12 and reached the Second Round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament during his lone season in Raleigh, N.C.
He joined N.C. State after two seasons as volunteer assistant coach at Ohio State with the men’s volleyball program. He helped lead the Buckeyes to its second National Championship during the 2016 season.
While in Columbus, Read also worked with the girls and boys teams at the Elite Volleyball Training Center as head coach and program director. The Fresno, Calif., native was an Academic All-Big Ten Selection and Academic All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) honoree as a student-athlete at Ohio State.
Read also served in the United States Air Force prior to attending Ohio State to play collegiate volleyball and earn his degree in physical education. His father Tom played for the U.S. National Team from 1973-76.
He and his wife Paige live in Orlando with their chocolate lab, Bailey.
