Brad Helton, who is recognized nationally as one of the leaders in his field, came to UCF after serving 20 seasons as the Marshall University Director of Video Services.
At UCF, Helton handles all aspects of coaching video for the football program.
At Marshall, Helton and his staff were responsible to ensure the Marshall Football staff had a clear picture of the Thundering Herd's practices and games. He was also responsible for obtaining and preparing materials on opponents, facilitating in-depth breakdowns and game planning. Helton provided Marshall coaches with almost instant access to video and data on games, practices and opponents.
Helton has been named conference Video Coordinator of the year, as selected by his peers, eight times. He was also honored by the Collegiate Sports Video Association with the Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year Award for his work in the 2002-2003 season.
Prior to his arrival at Marshall, Helton was a member of the production department for the local CBS affiliate in Huntington, W. Va., WOWK-TV.
Helton is a 1994 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's of science in mass communications. While at ETSU, he did work as the color commentator for women's basketball broadcasts. Before transferring, Helton played one year of college baseball at Gardner-Webb University. He is a 1988 graduate of Virginia High School in Bristol, Va.
Helton is also a well-known still photographer and has been hired on numerous occasions to shoot pro/celebrity golf tournaments and various NFL events, including the MCI Heritage (PGA), NFL Charities Super Bowl Golf Classic, The Crosby and the John Daly Make-A-Wish Celebrity Golf Classic. In addition to his position as Director of Video Services, he had oversight of Marshall's Athletic Photographic services, archiving and managing the online photo store.
Helton and his wife Tara have two children, Ryan Chandler and Haley Elizabeth.
