Matt O'Brien joined the UCF Football staff in January of 2018. He will serve as the Knights' offensive quality control and special teams analyst.
O'Brien arrived in Orlando after serving as an offensive graduate assistant at Missouri in 2017. During his one season with the Tigers, O'Brien helped coach an offense that led the Southeastern Conference in multiple statistical categories. O'Brien worked directly with three Tiger receivers who ranked in the SEC Top 10 for receiving yards per game, including Second Team All-SEC honoree J'Mon Moore. Missouri led the nation in pass plays of 50 yards or more.
Prior to his stint at Mizzou, O'Brien was on the University of West Georgia staff for five seasons. During his time with UWG, he coached multiple all-conference performers, including All-America performer Denarius Appling. O'Brien gained experience coaching running backs, tight ends, wide receivers and special teams during his time with the Wolves, while also serving as an academic coordinator and recruiting coordinator. As UWG Special Teams Coordinator in 2015, O'Brien's units were tops in teh Gulf South Conference in kick coverage, punt return average, punt return touchdowns, field goal percentage and PAT percentage.
O'Brien earned his bachelor's degree from UWG in 2011. He played wide receiver for the Wolves from 2008-10.
