Tom Freeman is in his first season as the offensive line coach at UCF. He spent the past two years at Stanford, where he coached the centers and guards and also served as the Cardinal run-game coordinator.
Freeman has coached on the collegiate level for 36 seasons, including 32 on the Division I level. He has worked in some of the nation[apos]s top conferences, including the Big East, Big Ten and Pac-10.
Prior to joining the Stanford staff in 2005, Freeman spent eight seasons at Pittsburgh. During his time with the Panthers, the squad participated in six bowl games. In 2004, Pittsburgh earned the Big East[apos]s bid to the Bowl Championship Series and played in the Fiesta Bowl.
As Pittsburgh[apos]s offensive line coach, Freeman helped five of his lineman garner All-Big East honors. In 2000, he added run-game coordinator duties to his responsibilities.
From 1992-96, Freeman was the offensive line coach at Purdue. His offensive lines were instrumental in allowing Mike Alstott to record consecutive 1,000-yard rushing campaigns in 1994 and 1995. The Boilermakers recorded the 12th-best rushing offense in the country in 1994 as they averaged 233.4 yards per game on the ground to lead the Big Ten.
Freeman worked at Arizona State from 1984-91 as the Sun Devil[apos]s offensive line coach. He helped Arizona State to three bowl games, including the school[apos]s first Rose Bowl appearance in 1986 when it claimed the Pac-10 title. In 1987, the Sun Devils averaged nearly 200 yards per contest on the ground.
During his coaching career, Freeman[apos]s squads have participated in 10 bowl games.
Freeman spent three seasons coaching the offensive line at San Diego State, his alma mater (1981-83). He has also coached at Hawaii, San Diego City College and Santa Ana College. He began his career as a graduate assistant at San Diego State in 1969.
Several players coached by Freeman have had successful careers on the professional level, including Randall McDaniel, who was a 12-time Pro Bowl selection in the National Football League. McDaniel played under Freeman at Arizona State.
A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Freeman earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in liberal studies from San Diego State in 1969. He began his collegiate career at San Diego City College in 1964 and was a part of two conference championship teams. Freeman went on to play center and tackle at San Diego State and the Aztecs went 19-1-1 during his time on the squad and won a pair of College Division national titles.
Freeman and his wife, Joanne, have three daughters: Anna, Emily and Laura.
