Preparing To Take Down A Competitive Rival

The Knights are preparing for their second Conference USA contest of the season this Saturday against Southern Miss. A victory against the Golden Eagles would mark the second time in school history UCF has beaten its division rival.

UCF and Southern Miss have had many close contests in the past, including last year's game when the Knights scored with no time remaining to pull within one point, 30-29. UCF went for the win on a 2-point conversion attempt, but didn't complete the pass attempt.

None of the of the Knights on the current roster have taken part in a victory against Southern Miss. UCF would like to change that this weekend.

"For me, it's definitely something I want to get accomplished while I'm here," senior running back Latavius Murray said. "I definitely remember back in 2010 when we were ranked and they knocked us out of the polls. We're not going to take them lightly. We've been practicing very hard this week, just like we do every week."

"Last year, we had the chance to beat them and came close, but I'd like to leave here with a win over Southern Miss," senior defensive lineman Cam Henderson said. "They're a great team. We have to take care of business on Saturday."

Southern Miss is 0-5 and is coming off a 40-14 loss against future Big East member Boise State. But the Knights know that record is immaterial when 8 p.m. Saturday rolls around.

"0-5 doesn't really mean anything. We have to come out and play like any other game," Henderson said.

The Knights have face the Golden Eagles every year during their tenure in C-USA and are very familiar with the Golden Eagles' style of football. That knowledge of the program will keep them engaged in their preparations this week.

"We're very motivated," Murray said. "Just for me and overall as a team, we just know we have to go out there and get this win."

"They have a lot of athletes and almost their entire secondary coming back," Murray continued. "We just can't take them lightly and have to go out there and play hard every week just like we have been doing."
