A Look at Old Dominion

The No. 25 Knights will host No. 13 Old Dominion in their home opener this Saturday at 7 p.m. UCF is coming off of a 2-1 road win against FAU last Friday. Here are some notes on the Monarchs: - The Monarchs finished last season with a 12-6-2 record after advancing to the second round in the NCAA Championship

- UCF is 1-0 all-time against the Monarchs after a victory in 2008

- Key players for the Knights to shut down will be senior forward Yannick Smith and junior midfielder Gideon Asante

- Smith was a Third Team All-American and ranked 9th nationally for goals scored in 2011

- Asante was named to the All-CAA First Team and is one of the nation's top assist leaders - The Monarchs have reached the NCAA Championship in each of the last two years

- After this season, Old Dominion will join Conference USA

- Last season, they finished second in the country in goals per game

- The Monarchs star goalie, Victor Francoz, is on the Hermann Trophy Watch List

- He posted a 1.38 goals against average with 86 saves and six shutouts last season

- Old Dominion is coached by four-time CAA Coach of the Year Alan Dawson, who is in his 16th season with the Monarchs

- Old Dominion is coming off of a 4-0 season opening victory against Navy last Saturday
