Afia Charles Makes Headlines in Orlando Sentinel
UCF sprinter Afia Charles will be heading to London tomorrow as UCF's first track and field Olympian. What could be a better sendoff than a feature story by Iliana Limon Romero in Wednesday's Orlando Sentinel.
Charles will be competing in the 400 meters for Antigua. Her first race is Aug. 3.
"Afia Charles was relaxing between UCF summer classes when she got a life-changing phone call from her mother.
"Despite falling short of minimum qualifying times, Antigua was invoking an exemption and inviting Charles to represent the country at the upcoming London Olympics.
"'I couldn't believe it,' Charles said..."
