Volleyball Caps Off Perfect Weekend with Four-Set Triumph over West Virginia

ORLANDO - In another formidable defensive display, UCF volleyball achieved its second consecutive Big 12 win this season against West Virginia at The Venue Sunday, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22.

Avah Armour led the Knights in kills with 22, her third-highest in a match this season. Alongside Armour, Kiki Horne and Ella Chapman aided in the attacking force with eight kills each. The defense was led by Sasha Cohen and Natasha Casey with four blocks each, including connecting on the match winner.

How It Happened

The match opened with a back-and-forth battle until the Mountaineers pulled ahead 7-4. The Knights quickly came back and kept the lead well into the set, with aces from Fallon Stewart and Alexa Haley along with kills from Armour and Casey that helped maintain the advantage.

As the Mountaineers began catching up, a block by Casey and Cohen initiated the attack to win the set. Cohen and Horne both garnered kills, and Horne secured the set win with a kill, 25-21.

UCF entered the second set with a strong attack led by Armour’s six kills, followed by Chapman with two. The Knights maintained the lead until the middle of the set, when WVU started chipping away at the lead. The Mountaineers were able to tie the set 18-18, and stayed ahead to win the set, 25-18.

UCF obtained a five-point lead with a 10-5 run to open the third, which brought them to the brink of the set at 20-15. Three kills from Armour led the Knights to the set point, which she took with an emphatic attack as UCF took back the lead, 25-17.

Set four started with a lead from the visitors, which UCF fought to level. Once the Knights tied the set at seven-all, neither team grew a large lead as mistakes were kept to a minimum. Back-to-back aces by Casey gave UCF a three-point lead, which they held until the end of the set. A kill from Nygeria Hart and a block by Casey and Cohen carried the Knights to the set point, and finalized the win with another block from the pair, 25-22.
