RALEIGH, N.C. – The UCF rowing team opened the Lake Wheeler Invite with a pair of races on Friday.
The Third Varsity Eight, consisting of Brianna Nardelli, Maddie Adolfs, Callie Keel, Emma Faulkner, Meagan Lukavec, Kate Corrigan, Izzy Kaltenbaugh, Julianne Souza and Isabella Pinera, started the day off with a victory. The Knights won in 7:15.272, more than three seconds ahead of North Carolina.
The Second Varsity Four squad of Mackenzie Harrod, Chiara Ciullo, Aryann Johnson, Emily Klysen and Aubrie Russo picked up a victory in 7:49.102.
The Varsity Four boat of Kennedy Keith, Saskia Papsova, Rachel Dunford, Claire Kaminski and Martyna Wasilewska finished second in 7:43.062.
The Second Varsity Eight squad of Sophia Troia, Georgia Coyne, Annberlee Hothem, Avery Bethel, Jillian Lawrenson, Maura Shiner, Brianna DiSanti, Lindsey Buckreis and Tatum Cox finished third in 6:51.636.
UCF's Varsity Eight, consisting of Julia Going, Emily Puia, Connery Cassidy, Tegan Fookes, Emma Leavens, Charlotte Wiley, Kelly Brown, Martina Pischedda and Anna Kayser Gallego, rounded out the first round with a third place finish in 6:42.991.
The Third Varsity Eight, keeping the same lineup but inserting Sofia Soria as coxswain, opened the second round with a third place finish in 7:13.968. The Second Varsity Four finished second in 7:43.323. The Varsity Four finished fourth in 7:43.654.
The Second Varsity Eight finished fourth in the second round in 6:54.198. The Varsity Eight switched to Lauren Roman as coxswain and finished third in 6:43.021 to round out the opening day.
The second day of action begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m. UCF's Third Varsity Eight opens the day in the first heat.
