CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Despite challenging weather conditions at the Rivanna Reservoir, the UCF rowing team picked up four victories at the UVA Invite.
The Varsity Eight, consisting of Lauren Roman, Emily Puia, Emma Leavens, Charlotte Wiley, Anna Kayser Gallego, Martina Pischedda, Kelly Brown, Tegan Fookes and Connery Cassidy, opened the day with an near 14-second victory over North Carolina, crossing the line in 7:16.7.
The Second Varsity Eight squad of Sophia Troia, Georgia Coyne, Annberlee Hothem, Brianna DiSanti, Maura Shiner, Martyna Wasilewska, Jillian Lawrenson, Tatum Cox and Lindsey Buckreis, finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of the Tar Heels in 7:45.6.
The Varsity Four boat of Mackenzie Harrod, Emily Klysen, Aryann Johnson, Saskia Papsova and Meagan Lukavec, finished second in 9:04.9.
The Second Varsity Four, consisting of Julia Going, Chiara Ciullo, Rachel Dunford, Claire Kaminski and Aubrie Russo, topped the Tar Heels with a time of 9:17.4.
The Third Varsity Eight boat of Kennedy Keith, Maddie Adolfs, Callie Keel, Avery Bethel, Izzy Kaltenbaugh, Emma Faulkner, Isabella Pinera, Cameron Bowman and Julianne Souza, picked up a win over North Carolina in 9:17.4.
In the afternoon session, the winds picked up as the Knights battled intermittent rain and snow conditions down the course. The racing order reversed, as the 3V8 started UCF off with a third place finish. The Knights finished second to No. 6 Virginia in the 2V4, V4, 2V8 and V8 races.
UCF returns to action on April 1, making the trip across to Sarasota for the Sunshine State Invite.
