SARASOTA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF rowing team collected a pair of victories to close out the Sunshine State Invitational on Saturday.
The Varsity Eight opened the day the same way that it closed Friday action – with a victory. The boat, consisting of Nicole Mayer, Lauren Aiello, Ashleigh Boyd, Julie Poulsen, Marija Medelinskaite, Viktorija Senkute, Mia Cleary, Edvina Nesukaityte and Zana Krakic, posted a winning time of 6:34.3.
The Second Varsity Eight, consisting of consisting of Olivia Hecimovich, Anna Mahoney, Claudia Destefani, Aly Derksen, Ivana Krkljus, Leslie Lajoie, Rachel Rabinowitz, Danielle Taylor and Jasmine Blais, added a second victory for the Black and Gold. The squad shaved more than eight seconds off its time from Friday. The Knights, who finished third to Miami on Friday, posted an open water victory over the Hurricanes on Saturday.
Lowering its time by 10 seconds, the Novice/Third Varsity Eight jumped one spot to finish fifth in the third race of the day. The boat, consisting of Ashley Martin, Liz Mallet, Jordan Jahosky, Danielle Braun, Dina Samaan, Danielle Wilson, Victoria Gingras, Ashley Barnes and Triston Krebs, finished with a time of 7:23.1.
The Varsity Four, consisting of Catherine Harms, Paula Parks, Grace Lindberg, Darby Brooks and Sydney Hays, continued the day with a fifth place finish. The boat lowered its mark by four seconds from Friday's time, crossing the line in 7:40.1.
UCF raced a pair of boats in the Second Varsity Four race to close out the day. The "A" squad, consisting of Kristen Taylor, Jessika Scholz, Jacinta Kendall, Alyssa Ramos and Shannon Perry, finished third with a time of 7:41.9. The "B" boat, consisting of Erica Jimenez, Jazmin Sepulveda, Nicole Snyder, Raquel Smeenge and Caitlin Ross, finished fifth with a time of 7:54.4.
The Knights return to action on April 8. UCF travels to Sacramento, Calif., for the two-day Lake Natoma Invitational.
