ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—The UCF men's tennis team was up 3-2 over Auburn before dropping two three-set matches on Sunday at the USTA National Campus. The Knights fell 4-3 to the Tigers.
"Auburn played a good match and deserved the win today," said head coach John Roddick. "We need to have a good week of practice and work to get better. We had some very bright spots today, and some areas that we need to clearly get better in."
Enrique Paya and Chris Barrus won the third court of doubles quickly, 6-1, but the Black and Gold were unable to use the momentum and dropped the doubles point.
In singles, Harrison Richmond put the Knights on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the third court. On court five, Barrus tied the score up with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Korey Lovett gave the Knights a 3-2 lead, winning 7-5, 7-6 (3). Mariano Porter fell on court four, which tied the score at 3-3. Danny Kerznerman was trailing 5-1 in the third set, and fought back to 5-5, before ultimately falling 7-5 in the third.
The Knights have a few weeks off before heading to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on Florida State on Feb. 9
