How Sweep It Is!

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)—The UCF men's tennis team swept Arizona, 7-0, on Monday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona.

"Today was the cleanest tennis we played all weekend," said head coach John Roddick. "We did a good job of limiting our errors, attacking the right spots and attacking the way we want to do it. I was really proud of our effort."

The Knights clinched the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Nationally ranked Mariano Porter and Harrison Richmond defeated Oliver Plaskett and Trent Botha, 6-2, on the top court. Chris Barrus and Enrique Paya posted a 7-5 win over Will Adkisson and Alejandro Reguant at the third position.

In singles, Porter made quick work of Shoki Kasahara with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the number four spot. At No. 2 singles, Kalman Boyd won 6-0, 6-2 over Will Kneale.

Korey Lovett sealed the deal on the top court. Lovett defeated Shoti Meparidze, 6-4, 6-2. Richmond joined the winning group with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court three. Danny Kerznerman added another victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win on the sixth court.

Barrus completed the sweep for the Knights with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Alejandro Reguant on the fifth court.

"For Chris at the end to win that tough three setter, I think it was a really high-quality match that he was playing," Roddick said. "That's definitely going to help his confidence."

The Knights have six days off before a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 22. UCF takes on Auburn at noon, and follows up with a match against Bethune-Cookman at 5 p.m.
