ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Behind a seven-run third inning, Black notched its second-straight Black & Gold World Series Sunday night, 10-4, at the UCF baseball complex. Over 200 fans enjoyed the championship game that was rescheduled from Friday night due to rain.
Senior catcher Ryan Breen drove in a World Series-best four runs and was 4-for-9 (.444) at the dish with a pair of doubles, including a 3-for-5, 3 RBI effort in the championship game. Sophomore Harrison Hukari notched the win with three innings of two-hit ball.
Starting with a 1-0 deficit due to its 4-3 loss on Wednesday, Gold evened the game at 1-all in the top of the third after Jarrod Petree singled and later scored on a JoMarcos Woods bloop single. Black would answer back with seven runs of its own in the bottom-half of the frame on seven hits and five errors.
Batting around in the inning, Breen notched two hits and his three RBI while Parker Webster, Hunter Wildes, Tommy Williams, Chris Taladay and potential walk-on Bret Gordon all registered base knocks.
With the backing of its offense, the Black pitching staff used freshman Zac Favre and sophomore Eric Skoglund to close out the game. Favre went three frames and allowed two hits and one run while striking out three. Skoglund also went three and gave up a pair of runs while punching out a pair.
Gold used the strong 18mph winds to its advantage for three of its four runs as seniors Nick Carrillo and Jeramy Matos each blasted the only two home runs of the series.
