ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The spring season officially wrapped up Saturday with the 2012 UCF Football Spring Game Presented by PNC Bank. A link to the photo gallery along with quotes statistics from the annual contest are below.
UCF Head Coach George O'Leary
On the no-huddle and the overall performance of the offense:
"I really wanted to put Blake (Bortles) under some heat because I think it's going to happen pretty quick in the early part of the season. I just wanted to see how he really took it on. We practiced some no huddle this past week and there needs to be more of a sense of urgency. I thought he handled it well. I think really the problem today in the whole day was dropped passes. We had 12 dropped balls there. Those are stopping first downs. I was happy with the run game what we got done there. I wanted to see us throwing the ball but again, way too many dropped balls ... but we'll get that cleaned up there. We ended the spring the way you want to end it - basically we got everybody in the game and each team had about 80 plays. That's a good day's work."
On freshman wide receiver Breshad Perriman as well as the defense:
"Perriman is still not confident in a lot of things as far as turning up field after catching it. All of those guys have to learn to catch it and go. They catch it and are expecting a hit. They have to turn the field north-and-south and make some YAC out of the play. I think the dropped passes were a concern, I think Blake is holding the ball a little too long on certain throws. Defensively we still have to work on getting some stops in front as far as flattening that offensive line. I'll look at the film and see where we're at. I use the spring to see what freshmen are going to be penciled in. You may have a two-deep but is it a winning two-deep? I'll sit down with the staff on Monday and Tuesday and just see where these freshmen, who we really feel good about, can come in and with practice can be better than what we have in some situations."
On sophomore running back Storm Johnson and senior running back Latavius Murray:
"Storm has ability, there is no question about that. Storm probably had the highest percentage of catches this past spring and he dropped one today, but Latavius (Murray) has always had good hands and he gives you some height, gets down the field (and has a) vertical push. I think we have players we can put around and have versatility. I think that's the big thing."
