ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After playing to a scoreless tie through 45 minutes, the No. 25 UCF women's soccer team allowed a pair of second-half goals in a 2-0 loss to No. 11 Florida Sunday. A record crowd of 2,141 flooded into the UCF Soccer Complex for the regular-season opener, shattering the previous attendance mark of 1,142 set last season in a victory over Florida State.

"I thought we played great in the first half and that we had more dangerous chances, but then we came out flat in the second half," said head coach Amanda Cromwell. "It was a great crowd too. I wish we could have given them some goals to celebrate on our end."

Florida may have scored twice in the second half, but UCF outshot the Gators (2-0-0), 7-6, and led in corner kicks, 4-0, in the final stanza. Junior goalkeeper Aline Reis made four overall saves on the evening for the Knights.

UCF put pressure on the Florida defense early with junior Stacie Hubbard and sophomore Tishia Jewell both having open looks at the net but witnessed their shots sail off target. Jewell also had a 1-on-1 with UF keeper Katie Fraine on the left side of the goal with time running out in the half however Fraine was there to make the save.

Meanwhile in the UCF net, Reis turned aside all three shots UF put on goal in the period, including a clutch save in the 34th minute as Lindsay Thompson headed a cross from six yards out that Reis covered up.

When the teams opened up the second half, the Gators started with possession and eventually put the ball into the 18. It paid off as UCF turned it over and Tahnai Annis capitalized by hitting the back of the net in the 48th minute. Just over four minutes later, Annis outran the UCF defense and tallied her second of the match to put UF on top 2-0.

The Knights would place four shots on goal in the second half to try and start a rally, yet Fraine made the save each time. The Black and Gold's best chance occurred with just under eight minutes left as freshman Kristina Trujic's attempt from about 20 yards was knocked away on a diving save. Trujic also had a terrific look at the net with two minutes to go but sent her shot just high over the crossbar.

UCF will now look ahead to hosting another NCAA Tournament team from 2009 when San Diego State rolls into town Friday for a 7 p.m. match-up.
