ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF's 2010-11 athletics season officially got underway when the No. 25 women's soccer team battled Florida International in a scrimmage Friday. Approximately 200 fans came out for the exhibition match, where four different Knights tallied goals in the victory, and they will now start to look ahead to the home opener against No. 11 Florida Sunday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m.

The format of Friday's match was one 45-minute period and two 30-minute periods. In the final stanza, both teams wanted to work on set pieces so at times throw-ins or goal kicks would turn into direct kicks or corner kicks instead. A total of 24 Knights saw time in the scrimmage, as the Black and Gold produced 33 shots, 11 on goal.

Senior Amanda Martorana was the first to put the Knights on the board with freshman defender Ashley Nicol earning an assist. Sophomore newcomer Katie Bolinsky, freshman Katy Ling and sophomore Tishia Jewell also tallied goals, as junior Katie Jackson amassed two assists and seniors Brianna Schooley and Kim Newsome along with junior Stacie Hubbard each earned one helper.

In goal, FIU put six shots on the UCF net but junior Aline Reis turned them all aside. Senior Jaclyn Meade also saw action in between the pipes Friday for the Knights.

UCF will now turn its attention to another week of practice sessions before hosting No. 11 Florida Aug. 22 live on Fox Sports Florida (part of the Gator TV network) to open the regular season.
