Orlando, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Despite a solid outing by starter Owen Dew, the UCF baseball team lost to Central Michigan, 3-0, Saturday in Orlando. The righty struck out five in 6.0 innings and allowed just three hits, while Shane Brown paced the Knights offense with two hits, a double and a stolen base.

Trent Howard went the distance for the Chippewas (3-2), fanning 11 Knights (7-4) in the complete-game shutout.

After striking out the first batter of the game, Dew walked the next two hitters. The righty maintained his composure, as James Teas grounded out to short for the second out. Nate Theunissen appeared he would deliver for the Chippewas yet first baseman Jonathan Griffin made a diving play to take away a sure two-run double, keeping the game scoreless.

By getting out of the first, Dew would go on to retire 12 of 13 batters, including 10 in a row at one point. That stretch came to an end in the fifth where William Arnold drew a one-out walk, which led to a pair of runs.

The Knights could not get much going at the plate vs. Howard. Their best opportunity occurred in the sixth where Stephen Branca sent a single through the right side with Ronnie Richardson running on the play to place runners at the corners with one away. However, Howard sat down the next two Knights to help maintain CMU's 2-0 lead.

And it would hold as the Chippewas added an important third run in the ninth to sew up the game.

The three-game series is now set to conclude with an afternoon affair Sunday at 1 p.m.
