ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF track & field team turned in eight top-three finishes Saturday while concluding the two-day UCF Invitational at the UCF Track & Field Complex. Sophomore Jackie Coward (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the event title in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the way for the Knights.
"We had some great performances today and hope that we can keep things rolling into Florida Relays," said UCF head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert.
Coward finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.11. Senior LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla.) continued her strong outdoor season for the Knights with second-place finishes in the discus and the shot.
Sophomore Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.), the reigning Conference USA Athlete of the Week, had strong efforts in the 100- and 200-meter dash. Paul had an 11.78 in the 100 to finish third and took fourth in the 200 with a time of 24.09.
Carley Dart (Whitby, Ontario) had one of the best efforts of the day for UCF, finishing third in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time of 4:37.71.
After two-straight meets at home, the Knights will take to the road next weekend, competing in the Pepsi Florida Relays April 2-3.
