ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF junior infielder Shane Brown (Winter Park, Fla.) was selected by the New York Yankees in the 47th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Thursday. Brown was an All-Conference USA Second Team pick this past season.
The Yankees used the 24th pick of the 47th round and the 1,425th selection of the draft on the Winter Park High School product.
In 2009, Brown paced the UCF offense with a .341 average, 73 hits, 30 doubles and a .431 on-base percentage. He also totaled 39 runs, 44 RBI and six home runs. Brown, who played several positions as a Knight, recorded 18 multi-hit and 14-multi RBI games.
Brown made NCAA history in April by reaching base 18-straight times. He went 13-of-18 in four games from April 21-24. He posted a .722 average during the span, earning three national hitter of the week honors and the C-USA Hitter of the Week award.
Brown boasts a .335 career average with 162 hits, 15 homers and 105 RBI.
He is one of three Knights who have been selected in the 2009 MLB Draft, joining Austin Hudson (Seattle, 27th round) and Chadd Hartman (San Diego, 43rd round). He is the 70th player in program history to be picked in the draft.
