REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. (www.UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 12-ranked UCF varsity eight extended its undefeated streak during the spring season as the Knights took a pair of victories at the Windermere Real Estate Classic on Saturday.
The Knights boat, which featured coxswain Katie Chapman, Caitlin Pauls, Krystina Sarff, Stephanie Pauls, Tara Rogers, Tanis Franchuk, Melissa Westhoff, Stephanie Adams and Erin Riegel, opened the regatta against No. 14 Washington State, winning the race by five seconds with a time of 6:56.55. UCF's time was the fastest by any team in the morning races.
In the afternoon, the varsity eight was four seconds behind No. 8 UCLA with 1500 meters to go before overtaking the Bruins at the halfway mark. UCF crossed the finish at 6:54.19 followed by UCLA at 6:54.80.
The second varsity eight dropped both of its races, while the varsity four lost to Washington State then beat UCLA by seven seconds.
In other races, the No. 5 lightweight eight lost to No. 1 Princeton and No. 7 Stanford by 25 seconds. The novice eight capped off the day with a win over Washington State.
