Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team stands in eighth place following the first and second rounds of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational played on Saturday at the University of Florida Golf Course.
Freshmen Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) and Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Bradenton Academy) both had a 73 during the two-round day to post the low rounds for the Knights.
Hurwitch's 73 came in her opening round as all golfers played 36 holes on the Par 70, 5,927-yard layout. She is the top Knight on the individual leaderboard, sitting in a tie for 21st with a two-round total of 149 (+9). Tomko's 73 was a seven-shot improvement from her opening round as she stands in a tie for 38th, second among UCF golfers.
The host Gators lead the 16-team field thanks to individual leader Sandra Gal, who fired rounds of 69 and 70 to be the lone golfer under par in the field at 139 (-1). In the second round, the Knights shaved nine strokes of their first-round score of 309 to sit 24 shots back of the Lady Gators at 609 (+49).
Freshman Leigh Crosby (Athens, Ga./Oconee) is tied for 48th after carding rounds of 79-76 (155, +15). Sophomore Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) equaled Tomko with the best improvement on the team from round one to round two. Connelly was seven shots better with a 75 (+5) in her second 18 holes. Connelly is tied for 56th, while Kristy McLaughlin (Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada/Collingwood Collegiate Institute) sits in a tie for 70th following rounds of 77 and 83 (160, +20).
