Kristy McLaughlin is a talented golfer with tremendous potential. She proved to be a good addition to the roster a year ago after transferring from Daytona Beach Community College. She provided some solid play last year and is expected to be among the leaders in stroke average again this year.
Spring 2007: Shot a low round of 73 in The Liz Murphy Invitational...Tied for 54th place at The Gator Invitational...Competed in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic and the UCF Challenge helping the team to a 12th place finish in both events.
Fall 2006: Competed in the final two events, recording a stroke average of 76.60...Fired a one-over 73 in the final round of the Lady Pirate Invitational to tie for 22nd...Placed in a tie for 64th at the Auburn Derby.
As a Junior (2005-06): McLaughlin made an immediate impact for the Golden Knights with a team-leading eighth-place finish in her UCF debut at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup hosted by Louisville. She was a close second to Holly Boot in stroke average with less than a hundredth of a stroke separating the two. She posted a year-long average of 78.08 and earned third-team All-Conference USA honors. In addition to her showing at the Cardinal Cup, she led the team at the Ross Resorts Invitational in North Carolina, where she tied for 16th. She posted four top-20 finishes and two top-10s on the year. Her other top-10 finish came when she tied for ninth at the Waterlefe Invitational. She qualified for nine of the 10 events on the year and her best round of the year was a 2-over 74, which she carded in the final round of the Ryder Florida Women[apos]s Collegiate Championship and the second round of the C-USA Championship. She tied for 14th at the C-USA Championship.
Prior to UCF: McLaughlin teamed with former UCF golfer Jessica Trein at Daytona Beach Community College. She was a two-time All-American and helped DBCC win back-to-back NJCAA national titles. She finished 11th and second, respectively, as a freshman and sophomore in the NJCAA national tournament. She was an all-around athlete when she prepped at Collingwood Collegiate Institute. She lettered in soccer, volleyball, golf, basketball and badminton and was named Collingwood[apos]s athlete of the year as a senior. She was a two-time MVP in basketball and was honored three times as the top golfer. She was also the team captain for three years. She earned academic honors all four years in high school. She has had a decorated career in her province, earning a ranking as high as third. She is a two-time Wasaga Open champion and won the Ontario Match Play championship in 2005. She finished third at the Ontario Amateur Championship and earned a spot on Team Ontario.
Personal: Kristy Lee McLaughlin was born in Etobicoke, Ontario, and is the daughter of Butch and Donna McLaughlin. She is a criminal justice major and is pursuing a minor in psychology.
