Rowing Had Strong Showing Against Michigan

TAMPA, Fla. - The UCF rowing varsity eight finished closely behind Michigan, the No. 8 team at the 2005 NCAA Championship, on Saturday in Tampa, Fla. on the Hillsborough River.

Michigan covered the 2,000 meter course in a time of 6:18.66, while UCF finished with a time of 6:20.73. UCF's line-up consisted of cox Heather Brooks, stroke Tanya Kleisler, Kyla Smith, Stephanie Adams, Krystina Sarff, Caitlin Pauls, Katherine Motes, Robin Capers, and bow Melissa Kroll.

UCF defeated Michigan by a six second margin in the varsity four. The varsity four included cox Katie Chapman, stroke Vilma Ramos, Tara Rogers, Erika Frantz, and bow Nicole Szwanke.

"It was a good day of racing in Tampa," said head coach Leeanne Crain. "Michigan is one of the top programs in the nation, and this race provides us the opportunity to check our speed early in the season."

UCF will return to action on March 18th against Syracuse and Columbia at the FIT Invitational in Fellsmere, Fla.
