BRADENTON, Fla. - Ashley Grier shot rounds of 1-over-par 73 and 6-over-par 78 Monday to pace UCF as the Golden Knights moved into first place after two round of the Waterlefe Invitational at the Waterlefe Golf and River Club. Grier is in third place in the individual standings.
UCF has a two-stroke lead over Florida International in the 14-team field heading into Tuesday's final round. Host South Florida and Louisville are tied for third five shots behind UCF. Grier is five shots behind Louisville's Adrienne White for medalist honors, while FIU's Rebecca Samuelsson is two shots behind White.
UCF was in third place after Monday's opening round after carding a 23-over-par 311 and jumped into the lead when it recorded the low round of the afternoon with a 22-over-par 310.
Grier is one of three UCF players in the top-12 in the individual standings. Holly Boot is two strokes behind Grier in fifth-place at 9-over-par, while Kristy McLaughlin is tied for 12th at 13-over-par. Boot's 3-over-par 75 was the lowest round recorded by a UCF golfer in the second round.
Jessica Trein, playing in her first event of the spring, carded back-to-back 9-over-par 81s and is tied for 28th, while Lauren Motyl is tied for 38th at 22-over-par.
