Women's Golf Finishes 11th at Lady Gator Invitational

March 12, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Lauren Motyl and Mayule Tomimbang each shot 5-over-par 75s Sunday as UCF carded its best round of the tournament and finished 11th at the Lady Gator Invitational at University Golf Course. UCF's round of 26-over-par 306 was the fifth-lowest of the day and vaulted the Golden Knights two spots in the final team standings.

"We played a little better today," UCF coach Emilee Klein said. "We struggled with the golf course this week, especially the greens, which were firm and fast. We need to spend more time on our short-game work to make the improvements needed at this time."

Host Florida won the 14-team event by 14-shots over Purdue, while South Florida posted the lowest round of the day, a 16-over-par 296, to finish third. UCF finished three shots behind 10th-place Yale.

The Gators' Sandra Gal won medalist honors by one shot over Alabama's Sarah Sturm. Gal shot a final-round 2-over-par 72 and finished the event at 7-over-par. Motyl was UCF's highest finisher, tying for 38th at 25-over-par. Holly Boot shot an 8-over-par 78 Sunday and finished one stroke behind Motyl in a tie for 41st.

Kristy McLaughlin also shot 78 Sunday and tied for 51st at 29-over-par. Ashley Grier had her troubles and dropped from a tie for 13th to finish tied for 58th at 31-over-par after posting a 17-over-par 87, while Tomimbang was alone in 60th at 32-over-par.

The UCF women's golf team will be in action again March 20-21 at the Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla.
