UCF senior Ashley Grier shot a 1-over-par 73 Monday to pace UCF as the Golden Knights carded a team score of 15-over-par 303 in the first round of the UCF Women's Golf Invitational at Stoneybrook Golf Club in east Orlando. The Golden Knights are in fourth heading into Tuesday's final round, nine shots behind Rollins in the 13-team field. Florida International is second at 300, followed by Texas Tech at 301.
Grier shot 3-under-par 33 on the front side, but finished with a 4-over-par 40 on the back nine. She is tied for sixth in the individual standings, two shots behind a four-way tie for first between Susan Nam (FIU), Ashley Harris (Mercer), Mariana De Biase (Rollins) and Marla Troester (Texas Tech), and one shot behind UCF's Lauren Motyl, who is competing as an individual. Motyl made four birdies en route to an even-par 72.
UCF also received a strong performance from freshman Mayule Tomimbang, who shot a 3-over-par 75. She is tied for 13th. Annabel Silk shot a 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 22nd, Holly Boot shot 78 and is tied for 28th and Kristy McLaughlin shot 82 and is tied for 57th.
This is the first event of the spring semester for the Golden Knights. UCF will be grouped with Mercer and Florida Southern in the next-to-last wave Tuesday beginning at 10:15. The three leading teams will begin their final round at 11 a.m.
