Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - Junior Kristy McLaughlin carded a four-over par 76 to finish in eighth place at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup Tuesday. McLaughlin, in her first event at UCF after transferring from Daytona Beach CC, shot four-over in each round to lead the Golden Knights to a fifth-place showing as a team. UCF shot a team score of 317 Tuesday to finish the event with a 54-hole total of 939 (+75).

George State (894, +30) won the team championship by 13 strokes over second-place Kentucky (907, +43).

Mike Akers served as UCF's coach as the search for a new women's golf coach continues for the Golden Knights. Akers is an assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams at UCF.

Joining McLaughlin in the top 20 was junior Lauren Motyl. She ended the 54-hole tournament with a score of 235 (+19) to tie for 20th in the individual standings.

Rounding out the field for UCF was junior Holly Boot, sophomore Annabel Silk and senior Ashley Grier. Boot finished tied for 34th (239, +23), Silk tied for 56th (249, +33) and Grier was tied for 60th (251, +35).

UCF returns to the golf course Oct. 3-4 at the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla.
