Ross Newton joined the UCF football staff beginning in 2021 as the head coach analyst and returned to the Knights in June of 2024 as chief of staff. Director of high school relations under Gus Malzahn at Auburn in 2020, he was in charge of building relationships with high school coaches through clinics, visits and other forms of communication. He also was the contact for all professional teams.
Newton spent the previous 14 years at Samford as defensive line and linebackers coach. During his time at Samford, Newton was also director of recruiting, camp coordinator and pro liaison. At Samford he helped three teams advance to the playoffs (including the first conference championship in school history), coached 14 all- conference selections, four All-Americans and one conference player of the year—and also worked with three individuals who went on to play professionally.
Newton graduated from Samford University in 2004 with a history degree. He and his wife Allison are parents of three sons—Thomas. William and Patrick.
