LUBBOCK, Texas - On the back of its first two Big 12 wins of the season last week, UCF volleyball continues its strong form with a commanding sweep over Texas Tech, 25-13, 25-20, 25-23, at the United Supermarkets Arena Friday evening.
Avah Armour led the Knights in attack with 15 kills and .351 hitting clip, while Kiki Horne added 10 of her own on 21 attempts. In consistent theme with her freshman campaign, the NCAA leader in aces, Natasha Casey, tallied five in just three sets, including the match winner.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After exchanging points in the opening rallies, the Knights secured a lengthy lead off kills from Armour and Horne, along with Casey's first two aces of the match. An overall 21-9 run gave the Black and Gold a swift 25-13 set-one win.
In the second, Armour took over offensively, totaling seven kills to pace the vibrant UCF attack. Blocks from Casey and Sasha Cohen, including another pair of aces from the former. fended off the Red Raiders, 25-20.
Looking to push the contest to a fourth set, Texas Tech came out firing in the third, taking a 15-13 lead into the media timeout.
Needing a spark, it was the Knights' defense that stepped up to the challenge, as Casey and Cohen connected once again on a pair of blocks to level the bout at 21-all. An ace from Haley gave UCF a two-point lead before Casey finished off the sweep with a kill and her fifth ace of the match.
UP NEXT
The Knights will stay on the road as they head west once again for matchups at Arizona State and Arizona.
