ORLANDO – The UCF baseball team put up seven runs in the first inning runs and didn’t look back, as it defeated Siena by a score of 13-1 on Saturday afternoon at John Euliano Park.
With the victory, the Knights (2-0) have clinched the season-opening series and will look to sweep the Saints in the weekend finale on Sunday. Over the two games, UCF has outscored Siena 29-1. The win marked the Black and Gold’s 34th straight over the Saints, as the Knights now hold a commanding 72-4 all-time series advantage.
A total of 10 different Knights recorded hits in the contest. Freshman Jordan Lodise led the way by going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three runs batted in and three runs scored. Senior catcher Zak Skinner too had a big day offensively by going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and a game-high four RBIs. In all, UCF outhit the Saints 15-3.
In his first start in a UCF uniform, junior right-hander Joey Trombley pitched 6.0 solid innings to earn his first victory as a Knight (1-0). Trombley allowed just one run on two hits while striking out four and not walking a batter. After giving up a run in the top of the first, the Sacred Heart transfer faced the minimum in five consecutive innings by retiring the side in order in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
“I thought Joey came out of gate throwing a bunch of strikes. Our defense did a nice job behind him and the offense got rolling,” head UCF coach Rich Wallace said.
With the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the first inning, Skinner drove home a pair of runs with a two-run double to right. Landon Moran followed with an RBI single, and JD Rogers added a two-run single to make it 5-1. After Austin Jacobs reached on an error to bring in a run, Lodise capped the seven-run first inning with an RBI single to left to extend UCF’s early advantage to 7-1.

Skinner later delivered a two-run single in the third and Moran followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-1. The Knights made it 12-1 in the fifth thanks to a solo home run from Lodise, his first collegiate round tripper, and an RBI single from senior newcomer Noah Rabin.

Following a pinch-hit double from Stephen Chucka and a pinch-hit single from Cayden Gaskin, Lodise then capped his stellar offensive day in the last of the sixth with a sac fly.
Senior transfer Roman Kimball then came on in the top of the seventh and pitched around a one-out single by inducing a 6-4-3 double play to end the game via the run-rule for the Black and Gold for the second straight day.

Williamson and Ross also tallied multiple hits in the game for the Knights, as Williamson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Ross finished 2-for-5 with a run scored. Jake Sparks drove in the Saints’ lone run in the contest, as Trombley and Kimball combined to limit Siena to just three singles on the afternoon.
UCF will go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. at John Euliano Park. The game will air live on ESPN+. Following Sunday’s contest, the Knights will open a five-game road stretch at Miami on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
