Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to No. 11 TCU at The Venue

by Ben Huber

ORLANDO - In front of a great crowd at The Venue on Thursday night, UCF volleyball went toe-to-toe with the nation’s 11th-ranked team, TCU, pushing the Horned Frogs to multiple tiebreaks. In the end, the visitors claimed the tight contest in the fourth (20-25, 25-27, 29-27, 22-25).

The Knights (10-6, 1-4) improved steadily throughout the match, slowly finding their footing and putting pressure on TCU (13-3, 4-1), before coming up short in the third consecutive tiebreaker. Abby Schomers put on a passing clinic, earning 45 of the team's total 50 assists. The whole team got involved in the attack, with five players putting up eight or more kills, and Armour leading the charge with 18.

We continue to create a lot of opportunities because of our service pressure which I love, but we are still trying to find the appropriate balance and we're close. A lot to take away from the match, and we'll use that to prepare ourselves even better for West Virginia on Sunday.

QUICK HITS

  • Schomers posted an impressive 45 assists, matching her second-best total of the campaign and her fifth 40-plus outing
  • Armour paced the Knights once again with 18 kills, her fifth-most in 2025, while continuing her incredible six-match streak with double digits to her name, amassing 103 in the process.
  • Since taking over libero duties, freshman Alexa Haley has been a consistent force in the Knights’ back row. This evening, she tallied her third-most digs this season with 17, propelling her double-digit streak to six.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the opening set, the Knights drew first blood, jumping out to a 7-4 lead on the back of a pair of aces by Mikayla Porter. UCF kept it close throughout with Avah Armour posting five kills, but ultimately came up short, falling 20-25.

Set two saw UCF starting strong once again, leading 16-9 at one point. Nygeria Hart came off the bench, earning two kills in her lone set, helping force extra points. The set came down to the wire, but TCU found the winner, 27-25.

The third set was an electric back-and-forth battle featuring seven lead changes. UCF was able to control the net, posting five blocks, more than either team in a single set all night. Yet another tiebreaker ensued, this time in the Knights' favor. Strong play from the middles, Sasha Cohen and Ella Chapman, pulled UCF in front to cut its deficit in half.

In the fourth and final set, the Knights kept it competitive, but TCU proved to be too much. UCF rallied back from a 14-10 deficit to level it at 20-all, but ultimately dropped the set 25-22.
