Women’s Soccer Set for Sunday’s 2025 Home Opener Against Florida Atlantic

ORLANDO – Fresh off a 2-1 victory in the season opener at UAB on Thursday, the UCF women’s soccer team returns to Orlando to welcome Florida Atlantic to town for its 2025 home opener on Sunday.

Sunday’s opening home match of the 2025 campaign will begin at 6 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. The contest will air live on ESPN+ and live stats can also be followed by visiting UCF.Statbroadcast.com. The first 150 UCF students in attendance will receive a free Knights hat. Food trucks will also be on site as well as Knightro’s Kids Zone that will feature inflatables, games, and other fun experiences for young fans.

The Knights will enter Sunday’s match with a 1-0-0 record to the young season after defeating the Blazers 2-1 in Birmingham on Thursday night. Senior newcomers Liz Worden and Rajanah Reed each found the back of the net in the opening half and UCF held on down the stretch to pull out the victory.

The Black and Gold got on the board in the 23rd minute, Worden buried one home on a corner kick to take a 1-0 advantage. Worden’s cross off the corner kick cleared everyone and not only marked UCF’s first of the season but also Worden’s first as a Knight. The impressive goal made Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays and checked in at number three on the list.

UCF then made it 2-0 in the 36th minute, as Gabi Berchon found Reed near the top of the 18 on the left side of the box and Reed fired a shot past UAB’s keeper. The goal also marked Reed’s first as a Knight.

After UAB’s Lauren Lucero hit one off the crossbar in the 41st minute, she then fed her teammate Rebecca Sierra a minute later in the box and Sierra capitalized to make it a 2-1 score heading into the half.

The Knights came out determined in the second half, as Worden fired off a few good looks to put the pressure on. The UCF defense also did its job down the stretch to help the Black and Gold hold on for the victory.

Worden led the Black and Gold with five shots and four of those on target, while Reed finished right behind her with three shots and two on goal. After being sidelined due to injury a season ago, the redshirt freshman Berchon recorded her first collegiate points in the contest with an assist. Genesis Perez Watson was credited with a trio of saves in goal to help UCF pull out the win.

HOME OPENERS UNDER ROBERTS SAHAYDAK
The Knights will enter Sunday’s home opener holding to an 8-3-1 record in home openers under Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak. UCF also hasn’t lost a home-opening match in each of the past five seasons with its last loss in a home opener coming in 2019 against No. 16 Wisconsin. Over the last five home openers, the Black and Gold have outscored the opposition by a score of 11-2 and a total of 23-8 over 12 previous home openers under Roberts Sahaydak.
