ORLANDO - Nine members of the UCF rowing team were named to the CRCA Scholar-Athlete List as announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
Rowers Elisa Faiola, Hannah Lovejoy, Cate Maloney, Sofia Naboni Nevado, Veronica Rush, Reese Springer and Natasjia Voulanas, as well as coxswains Julia Going and Audrey Vilendrer earned the distinction.
To be eligible for the scholar-athlete accolade, each athlete must be in their second year of eligibility as well as hold a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher as of the end of the fall semester of the academic year. The rower must have either raced in 75 percent of spring races in an NCAA-eligible boat or have raced in an NCAA boat at their respective conference championship.
The First 8+ are represented on the list by Vilendrer, Faiola, Lovejoy and Nevado. Vilendrer and Lovejoy notch their second consecutive appearance on the list while Nevado earns her first. Faiola is one of just 21 graduate students to earn their spot on the Coaches Associate list.
From the Second 8+, Going, Rush, Springer and Voulanas receive the scholar-athlete honor. Going has been named to the CRCA list for the third consecutive year. Rush and Voulanas make appearances on the list for the second year in a row. This year marks Springer’s first on the list.
The highest-placing UCF boat at the NCAA Championship, Maloney represents the First 4+ on the CRCA list. The honor marks her first time being recognized as a scholar-athlete.
