AUSTIN, Texas – In concluding an historic 2025 campaign, the UCF softball team fell in its 2025 NCAA Austin Regional Final matchup against the host and sixth-seeded No. 3 Texas Longhorns, 9-0, at Red & Charline McCombs Field Sunday afternoon.
“This is the toughest part of the year when you have to say goodbye to some awesome seniors,” said head coach Cindy Ball-Malone. “The beauty of this season is we were very young, so we get to return a lot of our awesome athletes. One game, one pitch doesn’t define us, and there’s a lot to learn from for all of our younger players.”
The third-ranked Longhorns clinched their NCAA Super Regional berth with a pair of two-run innings in the second and fifth frames before breaking the game open with a five-run seventh inning.
Though the Knights were unable to find the scoreboard against Texas sophomore right-hander Teagan Kavan, the squad did break through with hits by Aubrey Evans, Sierra Humphreys, Ashleigh Griffin, Beth Damon, Coco Jaimes and Madison Simon.
With her third-inning leadoff single, Jaimes ensured she would hit safely in each of UCF’s four regional matchups, highlighted by a pair of three-hit showings in the Knights’ two games against No. 25 Michigan and her first collegiate home run against Eastern Illinois.
The freshman infielder hit a team-best .667 (8-for-12) during the weekend in Austin, and in UCF’s last 14 games of the season represented her team’s leading hitter, going 16-for-34 (.471) with seven runs scored, two doubles, one home run, eight RBI and 21 total bases in that span.
“We’re a very young program, and it speaks to how much we’ve accomplished after graduating 11 seniors following the 2024 season,” Ball-Malone continued. “Our seniors this year definitely left us better than they found us, and I’m excited to celebrate them and continue to keep building.”
