VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - Securing UCF track and field its third honor of the weekend, the 4x400m relay squad placed ninth and picked up the second-ever Second Team All-American award in program history in the event.

Joining Kiah Williams and Adaobi Tabugbo’s second team outings on Friday, the squad secured the highest finish for a relay team at indoor nationals, garnering coach Boone her first All-America honor in the event while at UCF.

This wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for but I’m extremely proud of this group of athletes. This is the toughest meet to make and to show up and compete. I think we gained some valuable experience that will help us transition to the outdoor season.

As five Knights tallied honors, it marks the second-most in program history, sitting just behind the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships, where seven athletes were named All-Americans.

Competing in section two alongside Kentucky, Texas A&M, and UCLA, the Knights placed third with an impressive 3:31.32. UCF led through three legs, with Kiah Williams hitting the starting blocks, running a strong 52.68, before Jazmen Newberry and Twaneise Johnson both went sub-53 in the second and third legs.

With Deja Shaw-Huckaby’s 53.34 in the anchor, the Knights finished third in the heat, missing out on the top eight by just under a second.
