2025 Softball Class Preview: Sophomores

ORLANDO – As the beginning of the UCF softball team’s 2025 season approaches with the program’s annual season-opening Black & Gold Classic, head coach Cindy Ball-Malone will bring into the new year an exciting team infused with young talent and potential to complement the experience and established skills of its returners.

In part two of UCF softball’s class preview, the sophomores on the squad’s 2025 roster will be highlighted.

Samantha Rey | INF/OF | Salinas, Calif.

Having played for UCF her freshman year, Samantha Rey returns as an infielder and outfielder for her second season. In 2024, Rey hit .321/.333/.375 (18-for-56) with 15 runs scored in 41 games en route to a unanimous All-Big 12 Freshman Team selection. Rey made 20 starts between the infield and outfield. She boasted a .935 fielding percentage and recorded 32 putouts and 26 assists. Against Georgia State on Feb. 11, Rey recorded her first collegiate multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

The infielder aided UCF in plating a season-high 21 runs in the team’s 21-9 win over Wisconsin Feb. 16, producing her first career three-hit game in her 3-for-3 showing with four runs scored. Her four scores not only matched the Big 12 Conference’s single-game season high, but also tied a UCF single-game program record.

Sierra Humphreys | INF | Corona, Calif.

Infielder Sierra Humphreys returns for her second season with the UCF Knights as an infielder. Her freshman year, Humphreys hit .333/.376/.491 (36-for-108) with 19 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, three home runs, six walks, 29 RBI and eight stolen bases in 47 games. Her season showing earned a unanimous selection on the All-Big 12 Freshman Team, joining Rey. Of her 47 appearances, Humphreys started 35. In three of her first four games, Humphreys hit safely, going 4-for-10 with three runs scored, one double, and two RBI.

Among Big 12 freshmen last season, Humphreys’ .286 average in Big 12 play ranked 14th in the league, while also ranking among freshman leaders in league play in doubles (3, T-7th), RBI (11, 7th), total bases (20, 8th) and total hits (14, 8th).

The Corona, California, native hit her first collegiate triple and home run in the same game against Princeton March 2, going 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, seven total bases and a single-game career-high five RBI, and later hit her second career home run at Texas Tech March 28, a game-tying two-run shot in the Knights' six-run fourth inning that helped erase an early four-run deficit in UCF's 8-5 comeback win.

She had a hand in the largest NCAA Tournament comeback victory in program history against Auburn as well, hitting her first collegiate postseason home run in her first tournament appearance May 17.

Kiley Strott | C | Longwood, Fla.

Kiley Strott returns to the Knights as a sophomore. The catcher appeared in 14 games, including three starts, her freshman year. Strott posted a .963 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 27 total chances while recording 25 putouts and one assist. The catcher threw out her first collegiate baserunner attempting to steal in the top of the first inning against Princeton March 6 as well.

In high school, Strott earned First Team-All Conference, Offensive Player of the Year and 2021 7A All-State Team honor while helping lead her team to a district championship. She was also named to the Seminole Athletic Conference All-Academic Team from 2019-2022, as well as the National Honor Society in 2022.

Alexis Morgan | OF | Centreville, Va.

Sophomore Alexis Morgan returns to UCF as an outfielder. From Centreville, Virginia, Morgan appeared in 12 games as a pinch-runner. She scored seven runs and went 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts, recording her first collegiate stolen bases in UCF’s 5-4 eight-inning win over BYU April 6, 2024. 

In high school, she earned All-District First Team, All-Regional First Team, VHSL Class 6A All-State Team Outfielder, and Spring All-Metro First Team Outfielder honors during her junior season in 2022 at Westfield High School.

She was also named All-District First Team Outfielder, as well as All-Regional First Team Outfielder during her sophomore season in 2021.

Macy Miles | RHP/UTL | Baton Rouge, La.

A pitcher with the capabilities to play both infield and outfield positions, Macy Miles returns to action as a redshirt sophomore after not seeing game action in 2024. Her freshman season in 2023, Miles recorded five pinch-hit- at-bats while also making eight relief appearances in the circle. On Feb. 10 against Boise State, Miles collected her first collegiate strikeout and throughout her season stranded six of her nine inherited runners.  

She later recorded consecutive scoreless pitching appearances Feb. 21-25 against Louisiana and Purdue (1.2 IP), and collected 1 strikeout (or more) in consecutive appearances twice (Feb. 17-21 against Texas A&M and Louisiana, March 3-19 against LMU and No. 2 Oklahoma State).

Her high school tenure saw her earn First Team All-District and All-Region honors and was a Southwest Florida Player of the Year finalist as she helped her team to the 2022 state semifinals. She also hit .392 with a .489 on-base percentage and tossed 132 innings with 159 strikeouts during her senior year.

Destiny Washington | OF | Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A late addition to the Knights’ 2025 roster, Destiny Washington is starting her first season with the Knights after transferring from Marshall University, where she played in the 2024 season. During her time at Marshall, Washington appeared in 46 games, including 40 starts in the outfield. In 2024 she hit .336/.391/.422 (39-for-116), scoring 18 runs with seven doubles, one home run, 49 total bases, 11 walks, seven stolen bases, and 13 RBI.

Defensively, Washington posted a .946 fielding percentage in 56 total chances, recording 52 putouts and one assist. Washington also produced 10 multi-hit games, including a season-high three-hit showing against Appalachian State on April 26, 2024.

She also earned hits against two ranked opponents, first against then-No. 23 Kentucky March 20 (1-for-3) and later against then-No. 13 Virginia Tech (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 R). In Marshall’s Sun Belt Tournament run, she recorded hits in both games against Georgia Southern May 8 (1-for-4, RBI) and Texas State May 10 (1-for-3, 2B, RBI, 1 R).

UCF softball kicks off its spring 2025 campaign with a Feb. 6 season-opening twin bill against CSU Bakersfield at 3:30 p.m. and No. 14 Georgia at 6 p.m. The Knights will then meet NC State Feb. 7 at 4:30 p.m., Illinois Feb. 8 at 5 p.m., and conclude the weekend with a Sunday doubleheader against James Madison at 11 a.m. and Illinois at 1 p.m.
