Track and Field Signs Four Athletes to Exciting Class

by Alex Clough

ORLANDO - UCF Track and Field head coach Dana Boone and her staff have announced the signing of four promising athletes across multiple events to bolster the program’s ambitions in the Big 12.

A collection of versatile competitors across four regions of the country makes for one of the most enticing signing classes under Boone. Here is a breakdown of each future Knight:

Samiyah Roberson

  • Sprints | North Crowley High School | Fort Worth, Texas

A talented senior out of one of the top high schools in Texas, which continues to produce some of the best talent in the country, Roberson will look to grow under Boone and assistant coach Jasmyne Graham

Boasting a personal-best 11.48 in the 100m, a time that would have put her in the mix to qualify for the 2024 NCAA East Prelims, she specializes in both short sprint events. Her 200m record of 23.60 is a strong indicator of the raw speed that fans can look forward to.

Morgan Rothwell

  • Sprints | Bullis School | Potomac, Maryland

As one of the most prominent long-distance runners in program history, Kiah Williams, is set to depart following this season, Rothwell will look to build on a decorated high school career in Black and Gold.

The Maryland native held an impressive 53.80 personal best in the 400m and showed off her talents in the 800m with a 2:23.48 performance at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. She is also a talented relay runner, a member of the Bullis School’s national record-holding 4x400m squad who ran a 3:35.23 at the Florida Relays earlier this year.

Alexia Reid

  • Hurdles | Dillard High School | Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Hailing from the same High School as freshman Raquel Edwards, Reid has an impressive resume at Dillard and across the Florida high school scene. As a junior, she placed 2nd overall in the FHSAA 3A State Championships 100m hurdles, securing a 13.72, which matched her personal best set at the regionals two weeks prior.

A sign of her raw talent, Reid also consistently competes in the 400m hurdles and long jump, along with a respectable time sheet during the cross country season in the Fall.

Kaeli Powe

  • Jumps | Cherokee Trail High School, Aurora, Colorado

The first signing under new assistant coach Broady Honeycutt, the Colorado native excels in both the long and triple jump. Powe secured a massive personal best at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the latter, jumping a 12.61 in the finals, a mark that would have put her in the mix to qualify for the east preliminary rounds this year.

Her 5.74 personal record in the long jump, also set at Franklin Field in Philadelphia this summer, will make the future Knight equipped to score at conference in both events.
