Men's Tennis Set to Participate in ITA Regionals

Tournament Central

ORLANDO – The UCF men's tennis team is heading to Tallahassee this Thursday to compete in the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament.

The tournament includes all 17 schools in the southeast region and has trips to the ITA National Fall Championships on the line.

All seven Knights on UCF's roster are scheduled to participate in the event. Lleyton Cronje and Bogdan Pavel, Mehdi Benchakroun and Luca Hotze and Quinn Snyder and Cooper White will team up in doubles while also playing in singles. Emilio Sanchez will be the lone Knight to only play singles at the tournament.

Cronje and Pavel are a strong duo and were ranked No. 24 in the ITA DI Men's Doubles preseason rankings. The pair had a successful spring 2022 season, with a 6-3 record which included wins over No. 14 Stanford and No. 18 Michigan. The Black and Gold tandem was also named to the American Athletic Conference's All-Conference Doubles Team last spring.

Freshman newcomers Sanchez and Hotze will compete in the singles portion of the tournament along with the five other athletes on the team. Hotze made his first appearance this season in the Fall Sizzler where he earned his first UCF victory. Sanchez also earned his first UCF victory in day two of the Fall Sizzler.

Cronje, Pavel, and Benchakroun qualified for the main draw, beginning on Friday, with White, Snyder, Hotze, and Sanchez competing in the singles qualifying draw on Thursday.

The singles and doubles champions of this tournament will receive automatic entry into the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships in November.
