Melville Earns All-America Third Team Honor

AVCA Release/Full List

ORLANDO, Fla. – McKenna Melville of the UCF volleyball team earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Third Team honors, the organization announced on Wednesday.

McKenna Melville becomes the first Knight to earn four All-America awards as she tabbed honorable mention accolades during her freshman, sophomore, and junior campaigns. The senior is also the first Knight to earn a third team recognition and to be honored at the All-American banquet.

"This is a huge honor for McKenna and a milestone for the program," head coach Todd Dagenais said, "We've had All-American honorable mentions more times than I can count but earning a place on one of the three All-American teams is something that our school has never experienced, and it is historic.

"There is no doubt that McKenna is one of the best players in school history and this is solidifying her position as one of the most decorated players in school history. When her career is finally over and we all look back, there's a possibility that she may be number one on the all-time great list.

"Her leadership on and off the court, her community service, her work in the classroom and being an Academic All-American last season, there's nothing more a school could ask for than what she brings to the program.

"We're looking forward to the All-American banquet. She'll get to be among all the other great players in the country and be recognized in front of thousands of coaches. That is something we've been waiting for, for a long time."

UCF has had 12 All-American Honorable Mentions in program history, making McKenna's selection its 13th overall and the first, third-team honor.

Playing in and starting all 125 sets for the Knights, Melville led UCF to its fourth-straight conference title and NCAA appearance. The Eagan, Minnesota native dominated offensively while leading the nation with 701 points (5.61 points per set), 617 kills (4.94 per set), and 1,558 total attacks. She also added 34 aces this season.

Melville is the active career leader in kills per set (4.64), attacks per set (12.35) and is fifth in total attacks (5,298), and sixth in kills (1,990).

A true six-rotation player, Melville has shined defensively as well as she led the team in digs with 383 (3.06 per set). The outside hitter also led the Knights in block solos with 16 on the season while she totaled 84 blocks.

Melville is an all-around threat, picking up 19 double doubles this season and 71 over her career.

The senior was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team, AAC Player of the Week seven times this season, CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, AVCA All-Region and is now an AVCA All-American.

"She has already done amazing things and she gets better and better every year," Coach Dagenais added, "The future still lies in front of her, and she wants to leave a legacy and a blueprint behind for future generations of Knights here."
