ORLANDO – The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday and UCF sophomore Jada Cody was tabbed the conference Player of the Week as she was the backbone of a UCF attack that posted 29 runs to sweep Memphis on the road.
"Jada was a spark plug for us this weekend," said head coach Cindy Ball-Malone. "Her display of power and 'small ball' offensively was nice to see, but I was most impressed by her standout defensive play. It's great to see her settle in and play her game."
Cody led the Knights with three home runs on the weekend, including two in the series opener, where she went 3-for-4 with the two long balls, a single, two RBI and three runs scored to guide UCF to the 10-2 win.
The second-year Knight from Murrieta, California finished out the weekend 5-for-12 with three home runs, five RBI and six runs scored. As per usual, she also played lockdown defense at the hot corner, fielding a perfect 1.000 percent with five putouts and seven assists.
On the season now, Cody is tied for fourth on the team with seven home runs and is slashing .322/.404/.534.
The Pitcher of the Week award marks Cody's first of the year and second of her career as she also earned the distinction in her freshman season on Feb. 24, 2020.
Also earning conference honors, senior pitcher Gianna Mancha was named to the league's honor roll after throwing a no-hitter in Friday night's 8-0 win and almost repeating with six hitless innings in Sunday's 3-1 victory. On the weekend, Mancha threw 13 innings, striking out 23 and allowing just one run on two hits.
