ORLANDO – The UCF track and field team returns to action this weekend, hosting the Knights Invite at the UCF Track Complex.
 
The two-day meet begins on Friday afternoon with the field events. The women's hammer throw and pole vault kick off the meet at 1 p.m. Track action gets underway with the women's 400-meter hurdles at 6:30 p.m. The first day of action wraps with the men's 3000-meter steeplechase at 7:40 p.m.
 
Saturday's action starts at 9 a.m. with the women's discus. The women's 4x100 relay opens action on the track at 11:30 a.m.
 
Following the women's and men's 4x1 relays, the Knights will take a short break to recognize the members of their senior class. The senior recognition is slated for 11:40 a.m.
 
Spectators will be able to attend the Knights Invite, but will be limited to 20 percent capacity, or roughly 360 people. Masks must be worn and spectators must maintain social distancing at all times. Spectators must remain in the stands on the west side of the track and will not be allowed on the track level. There will also be portable stands near the hammer/discus cage for spectators. All athletes and teams must be on the opposite side of the cage from the stands. Per American Athletic Conference guidelines, spectators must remain 20 feet away from athletes/teams at the competition site.
 
UCF returns home after a strong weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville.
 
A fourth straight meet of setting the freshman record in the 100-meter hurdles led Rayniah Jones to American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors. Jones ran a 13.04 to finish fourth in the finals.
 
A dominant freshman campaign continued for Valerie Lastra as the rookie collected her fourth freshman record of the year, finishing the 1500-meter run in 4:26.75.
 
Charlotte Crook posted a personal best 4:25.00 to finish 12th in the 1500-meter run. Danielle Bess used a personal best mark of 24.08 to pick up a top 20 finish in the 200-meter dash. Victoria Jung used a personal best 10:54.14 to earn sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
 
Alexandra Del Re posted a personal best 10:11.09 to finish second in the 3000-meter run. Her mark puts her fourth on UCF's top performers list. The Knights added a podium finish in the high jump as Kaliah Jones cleared a personal best 5-6.5/1.69m to finish third overall.
